Learn the simple steps to refill your micro torch lighter safely and effectively. This guide covers purging, filling, and adjusting the flame for reliable use.
Quick Answer
Refilling a micro torch lighter is straightforward: purge any remaining gas, then fill with high-quality butane through the bottom valve, and adjust the flame height if needed.
Why Purge First?
Purging removes trapped air and old butane residue from the tank. Skipping this step can cause uneven flame or incomplete fills. It only takes a few seconds and makes the refill more efficient.
Choosing the Right Butane
Use high-quality, triple-refined butane to avoid clogging the nozzle. Lower-grade butane can leave deposits that reduce the lighter's lifespan. Most torch lighters, including the Micro Torch, work best with butane that has few impurities.
Step-by-Step Refill Instructions
- Purge the Lighter: Turn the flame adjustment screw to the lowest setting. Use a small tool (like a flathead screwdriver) to press the refill valve at the bottom. Hold until no more gas escapes. This releases trapped air. If you skip purging, the new butane may not fill properly and the flame could sputter.
- Fill with Butane: Shake the butane canister well. Hold the lighter upside down and insert the nozzle into the refill valve. Press firmly for 5-10 seconds. Wait a few seconds for the gas to settle before checking the fill level. Overfilling can cause leakage; stop when you feel resistance or see butane mist escaping.
- Adjust the Flame: After refilling, wait 2 minutes for the butane to stabilize. Turn the adjustment screw to your desired flame height. Test the lighter away from your face and flammable materials. If the flame is too high, it may produce soot; too low and it may not ignite reliably.
