Compare the FreshBox La Aurora and Rocky Patel Gold Label humidor starter kits to find the best fit for your cigar storage needs and budget.
Quick answer
Choose the FreshBox La Aurora Edition if you want an affordable, expandable starter kit for up to 50 cigars; pick the Rocky Patel Gold Label Edition if you prefer a premium bundled experience with 12 cigars and extra accessories.
Capacity and expansion differences
The FreshBox La Aurora starter kit holds up to 10 FreshBox three-cigar packs or roughly 50 loose cigars, depending on size. Its modular design lets you add more packs as your collection grows. The Rocky Patel Gold Label kit comes with four three-packs (12 cigars total) and uses the same FreshBox system, but its starter capacity is smaller out of the box. If you plan to store more than a dozen cigars soon, the La Aurora gives you more room to expand without buying extra components.
Included accessories and value
Both kits include a cutter, lighter, and Boveda 69% humidity pack, but the Rocky Patel Gold Label kit adds a MaxFlow airflow system and a branded humidor with a premium look. The La Aurora kit also has MaxFlow channels and a Boveda pack, but its focus is on practicality rather than presentation. The Rocky Patel kit costs more (USD 251.63 vs USD 165.98) and includes 12 premium Nicaraguan cigars, while the La Aurora kit does not include cigars. If you want a complete start with cigars included, the Rocky Patel kit offers better immediate value; if you already have cigars or want to choose your own, the La Aurora saves money.
How to choose between these starter kits
- Budget first: If you want to spend less than $170 and don't need included cigars, the FreshBox La Aurora kit is the better value.
- Cigars included: If you want a complete set with 12 premium cigars, the Rocky Patel Gold Label kit gives you that convenience.
- Storage capacity: If you plan to store more than 12 cigars soon, choose the La Aurora kit for its expandable 50-cigar capacity. Check how many cigars you currently own or plan to buy in the next few months.
- Portability: Both kits are portable, but the La Aurora's modular design makes it easier to take only what you need.
